The Takuvik Laboratory provides expertise in remote sensing of the ocean, especially in ocean colour.

The Takuvik Laboratory provides expertise in remote sensing of the ocean, especially in ocean colour. The main objective of this Observation Core project is to support MEOPAR’s principal investigator research with satellite data, and in particular Ocean Color (OC) and Sea-Surface Temperature (SST) data. The remote sensing data service (RSDS) has been involved and has supported four projects as well as provided punctual data and support to MEOPAR network. Support from this group has had a direct impact on MEOPAR’s PI research since part of their research relies on the access to satellite data.

In addition to satellite support, the MEOPAR network has facilitated knowledge exchange and training between Takuvik (Université Laval) and MEOPAR-OTN on glider deployment, operation and data processing. Takuvik has also organised a meeting using a MEOPAR financial contribution (in addition to the Canadian Space Agency) to promote networking and knowledge exchange in the ocean colour science community. Takuvik has benefited from its involvement in the Data Management workshop, which was an ideal venue for knowledge exchange.

Under the Observation Core project, the RSDS has also developed international collaborations with the LEGOS (Toulouse, France) on coastal altimetry.

These achievements are the direct results of the collaborative approach instigated by MEOPAR.
