This week, Waterlution has launched World Water Journey (WWJ), a knowledge-sharing platform with an interactive map sharing the water story of different communities. The platform brings together MEOPAR-funded research and local storytelling, and highlights people and groups making change in answering: What does our water need? The project received support from MEOPAR’s Knowledge Mobilization Fund.

The web-based platform has users register and then takes them on a trip to learn the water stories of different communities. Each stop is a journey of knowledge sharing, storytelling, and community grassroots awareness-raising. It includes a research hub and Situation Report on each location, synthesizing the needs and challenges in each place. There are also photos, videos, and audio, in a multi-media, art gallery-style webpage, to share unique and important local water stories.

World Water Journey is launching with 8 pins across Canada, and more are underway. Thanks to the partnership with MEOPAR, stories of several researchers across the Network are featured. This includes Dr. Vincent Sieben (Dalhousie University), Dr. Adam Fenech (University of Prince Edward Island Climate Lab), and Dr. Robert Newell (University of the Fraser Valley).

Knowledge mobilization spreads in many directions through World Water Journey, connecting researchers with communities and industry partners around the important role water plays in life.

“While water and climate challenges are local, there is a tremendous amount of knowledge across the globe where collaboration can occur to seek solutions. The goal is to increase knowledge and facilitate inclusive global water and climate change collaboration, solution-making and innovation,” said Karen Kun, President of Waterlution.

“We are grateful to MEOPAR for seeing the potential of this project and with their support was able to get the project launched.”

Waterlution is an internationally recognized water-focused organization offering distinctive capacity building, leadership and facilitation training to spark and mentor innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs in the water and climate change space.
