This web session is hosted by the Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network (MEOPAR) and the Transatlantic Ocean System Science and Technology (TOSST). It is the second in a series organized by TOSST and MEOPAR on mental health and wellness in graduate school.

Grad students and early career researchers often struggle with mild to severe mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety. Despite studies showing that depression affects more than one-third of graduate students, mental illness is still not openly discussed in academic environments. The lack of discussion often leaves one with the sense that they are the first person to experience such troubles, but this webinar aims to change that.

In this session, Drs. Karyn Suchy and Jonathan Kellogg will discuss how they’ve navigated grad school and early career science with mental illness and the struggle to find a balance between work and life’s other obligations. This webinar will welcome participation from attendees as our goal is to create a safe space to share and learn from each other.
