COVID-19 update

  • Posted

MEOPAR is fully aware that the current situation regarding the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is having a significant impact on the research community, both in Canada and internationally. We anticipate that the precise nature of these impacts may evolve over the coming weeks and months, and we note that projects may be unavoidably delayed as a result of practical measures taken to contain the virus.

Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of people—researchers and those who support them, including our own teams, HQP and partners. As a result, the MEOPAR administrative office will be working remotely for the foreseeable future—moving all scheduled meetings online—in efforts to minimize risk and practice physical distancing. As part of this, we ask that all communication be initiated by email at this time. We will be monitoring closely but ask that you reach out directly to the individual you require assistance from for the most timely response. Because compliance with public health safety measures is crucial at this time, all MEOPAR funded individuals must comply with all public health measures imposed at the federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, regional and institutional levels.

On an ongoing basis, we are working to understand the nature of any impacts on our funded projects and to facilitate any appropriate measures that may prove necessary. MEOPAR is taking a pragmatic approach and will give due consideration on a case-by-case basis to the following:

  • Deadlines for progress reporting
  • Budget reallocations or exceptional charges to grants arising from travel/other restrictions
  • No-cost extensions
  • Restructuring of project deliverables and timelines for researcher mobility and collaborations, where the direct adverse impact has occurred

We will be reaching out to each investigator this summer to understand the implications of COVID-19 on your research project deliverables and budget and will work with you to make adjustments as necessary. In the meantime, we ask that you remain in close contact with the Research Program Manager and Director Finance should you have any questions or concerns related to these circumstances and your work.

Also—in response to the current situation, MEOPAR is stepping up its online training opportunities. Click here for a list of virtual resources for HQP that we’ll continue updating over the coming weeks.
