National Forum on Coastal Community Resilience: Local Government Initiatives to Address Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Flooding

MEOPAR’s Response Core is pleased to host the National Forum on Coastal Community Resilience: Local Government Initiatives to Address Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Flooding, an interactive virtual event, September 29 and 30, 2020.

Here is the preliminary Event Schedule.

This event will offer a unique opportunity to connect, share and learn about coastal adaptation approaches for Canada’s coastal municipalities and coastal communities. The Forum will bring together planners from local governments of coastal communities; researchers; representatives of Indigenous governments, nations, and organizations; representatives of provincial and federal government agencies; and other relevant organizations. Over the two days, participants will be invited to share and discuss initiatives and innovative climate actions for addressing sea-level rise, coastal flooding, and related coastal hazards. Discussions will be organized around three main themes:  Technical Challenges; Engagement; and Implementation.

Community Snapshot Presentations – Opportunity to Profile Your Community!

Each of the three themes will include a Community Snapshots Presentation session.  We invite community representatives to make a short minute virtual live presentation about an initiative undertaken to address sea-level rise and coastal flooding, followed by a breakout session for more in-depth discussion of the topic. If you think you may be interested in presenting a Community Snapshot, please indicate your interest when you register (you will be prompted to do so). One of our Forum organizers will be in touch to discuss the opportunity further.

Opportunities for Networking, Interaction, and Engagement

We will be using the Whova Event Management platform for peer engagement opportunities during the event. For example, you can:

  • Share a short video recording; a brief written description; a poster image or photos about your community, initiative or challenge.
  • Start a ‘coffee-break’ conversation or meeting using live virtual-meetups and online conversation features.
  • Connect with other participants one on one through direct messaging.

Please note that participation and registration in this event is by invitation only due to limited space and capacity.
