Knowledge Mobilization Fund Call in 2021-2022
SIKU: The Indigenous Knowledge Social Network, developed by the Arctic Eider Society (AES) in collaboration with Indigenous communities, supports Indigenous self-determination in research, education, and environmental stewardship. The SIKU website and app provide cutting-edge technological tools and services for climate change adaptation, ice safety, research, monitoring, project management, and knowledge mobilization (KM). KM occurs at many levels on SIKU: within and among Inuit communities, between Inuit and research teams, from research projects back to communities, and from researchers and Inuit to decision-makers. There are currently over 9,000 SIKU users (an increase of 3,000 since our last KM proposal) and a diversity of projects actively using SIKU to support monitoring and stewardship activities across Inuit Nunangat. This project will build on the relationships established under Phase 1 of the Project and facilitate KM between MEOPAR researchers, Inuit communities, and decision-makers through SIKU in the following ways: 1) additional training workshops for project leads, research teams, and northern partners to ensure co-design of new SIKU features, 2) collaborate with MEOPAR staff to develop online SIKU support resources for researchers, and 3) undertake development work for 1 significant and 2 minor SIKU tool updates.
