Summary:
The NKELPA CoP seeks to grow the understanding and care of kelp ecosystems across Canada’s Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic coasts by co-developing regional kelp action plans, grounded in science, Indigenous knowledge, and local priorities.

Goal and Approach:
The NKELPA CoP brings together scientists, Indigenous stewardship leaders, policymakers, NGOs, and practitioners to strengthen kelp forest management, conservation, and restoration across Canada. It serves as a national coordination hub, connecting regional initiatives and facilitating the sharing of knowledge, data, and best practices to support inclusive and evidence-informed decision-making. By linking local and regional efforts with national priorities and broader marine conservation initiatives, NKELPA co-develops regional kelp action plans grounded in science, Indigenous knowledge, and local priorities. Together, these efforts will contribute to a coordinated national framework for kelp conservation, sustainable blue-economy development, and the long-term well-being of coastal communities.
