From August 9 to September 19, 2025, the icebreaker Oden and the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Louis S. St-Laurent conducted a joint expedition to map the seabed in the Arctic Ocean within the framework of the UNCLOS program (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea). At the same time, an international research school for doctoral students and early-career researchers was held, focusing on the Arctic climate system, where participants will gain practical experience in research and fieldwork in extreme environments. The program combines lectures, seminars and practical fieldwork, giving participants the opportunity to work alongside senior scientists across six scientific work packages (WPs), including marine geology, oceanography, meteorology, sea ice research and marine biogeochemistry. MEOPAR funded 6 Canadian participants to participate in this field school.
