Knowledge Mobilization Fund Call in 2021-2022
MEOPAR (and others) funded the Arctic Marine Activities Integration and Synthesis Project (now called Arctic Corridors and Northern Voices (ACNV) led by Dr. Jackie Dawson in which Dr. Dawson’s team 1) developed a long-term geospatial ship track database for Arctic Canada, 2) documented Inuit-identified Culturally Significant Marine Areas, and 3) documented potential management strategies for marine vessel management. With Community Research Lead Natalie Carter, and GIS assistant Melissa Weber over 130 participants, in 14 Inuit communities, contributed Inuit knowledge, perspectives, and recommendations for marine vessel management in the language and dialect of their choice: English, Inuktitut, or Inuvialuktun (see map page 2). Our ACNV team developed and disseminated professionally designed English-only reports for each community (electronic and professionally printed) and developed an open access website to host results. Numerous Inuit rights holders have vocalized the need to access English and Inuktut ACNV reports.

Audience: Inuktut speakers in 14 ACNV partner communities in Arctic Canada, and 20+Inuit organizations leading self-advocacy, communication, and negotiations about marine policy and decision making with federal and territorial governments, mining and tourism industry. Scope:
- Translate 14 project reports into Inuktut;
- Integrate Inuktut translations into existing report template, creating a bilingual suite of web-and print-ready reports;
- Professionally print Inuktut reports;
- Update project website to host Inuktut reports;
- Produce a one-page announcement for electronic distribution to 400+project rights holders and stake holders); and
- Mail reports and announcement to 35+ community partners and Inuit organizations for distribution to research participants and other rights holders
