MEOPAR is pleased to be advancing to the next stage of the application process for the Government of Canada’s Strategic Science Fund. MEOPAR was successful in the Letter of Intent phase and has been invited to submit a full proposal by September. This Fund provides an opportunity for a new phase of MEOPAR’s coordinated Canadian approach to ocean research.

The Strategic Science Fund (SSF) is a new approach to improve the effectiveness of federal investments in supporting third-party science and research organizations (TPOs). The SSF is jointly administered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada and Health Canada.

A Continued Coordinated Canadian Approach

MEOPAR has built a truly national network, supporting leading-edge research, overcoming barriers to collaborative research, and training the next generation of marine professionals. It’s clear that there is an important role for MEOPAR to continue to play in the future.

MEOPAR’s reimagined organization under the SSF will advance Canada’s scientific capacity to observe, predict and respond to marine environmental and technological changes, and enhance the resilience of ocean-connected communities and industries in the face of climate change. MEOPAR will support a coordinated approach to mobilization of national expertise, knowledge and infrastructure in support of Canada’s sustainable blue economy and national adaptation strategy, the development of a new, diverse generation of ocean researchers and professionals, and the closing of gaps in Canada’s ST&I landscape.
