Knowledge Mobilization Fund Call in 2021-2022
The Resilient Coasts Canada (Resilient-C) platform is a free online tool for knowledge sharing between coastal communities in the areas of climate change adaptation and resilience to coastal hazards. The platform helps interested communities discover others across Canada that share similar hazard vulnerability characteristics or approaches to resilience-building, so that they can connect and learn from one another. The Knowledge Mobilization funds would be used to translate portions of the Resilient-C platform into French, a key audience language that has grown increasingly important for the project.
Specifically, we propose a strategic approach that translates key elements of the Resilient-C platform to facilitate access by francophone users. A complete translation of the site is not feasible in the short term due to the size of the platform, which now includes thousands of community actions and extensive supporting documentation and other media, and the complexity of the underlying computer code. Translation of key elements, however, would ensure some level of usability in French and communicate key findings from our research. These elements include:
- Synthesis reports
- The Resilient-C team is currently writing a small number of practitioner-oriented reports that summarize platform data and highlight notable case examples on selected topics, which will be posted as pdf documents;
- Tutorial videos/presentations;
- Supporting documentation on the methodology used for the project;
- Main menus on the website and limited static website content (i.e., content that does not change with user interaction). This would be a lower priority, subject to available funding, time, and technical considerations.
