Call

Modular Ocean Research Infrastructure — Initial Development and Demonstration (2021)

Vessel

PSV Atlantic Condor, Atlantic Towing Ltd.

Dates

  • Mobilization: September 2-8, 2021
  • Offshore: September 9-18, 2021
  • De-mobilization: September 19-24, 2021

Cruise aims:

  1. Mooring deployment
    • Seacycler
    • PPS-Plankton & Carbon Mooring
  2. Water column sampling for SeaCycler, PPS and Carbon Package ‘calibrations’
    • extensive sampling after mooring deployments at mooring location
    • ‘Bowtie’ sampling around mooring location for spatial context
  1. Water column sampling for biogeochemistry objectives, underway samples, filters, – extended Halifax Line
  2. Obtain fog and particle measurements (atmosphere)

Objectives and Science questions

  1. SeaCycler and PPS testing: operation, communication, sample triggering
  2. Observe late fall productivity in relation to other biogeochemical processes: air-sea exchange of gases, carbon budget, turbulence (Wallace/Atamanchuk/Bertrand/LaRoche)
  3. Establish the extent to which specific coccolithophore-produced biomarkers capture the isotopic composition of the water they grow in.
