The Conference
Now more than ever, international partnerships and collaboration within the scientific community are essential to the advancement of research and innovation. The American Association for the Advancement of Science(AAAS) is hosting their Annual Meeting from February 13th-16th, to bring together scientific delegations from across the world. This year’s conference, taking place in Boston, will focus on the theme of ‘Science Shaping Tomorrow.’
Presenters and attendees will join together to celebrate community and collaboration as a crucial aspect of scientific advancement, discuss current global challenges, and explore a future that champions progress through partnership.
The AAAS is the world’s largest multidisciplinary science society with more than 120,000 individual members in more than 91 countries. On average, the Annual Meeting attracts 4000 attendees across disciplines, representing academia, government, and the private sector.
Members of MEOPAR: Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network will be attending this year’s conference for the first time as part of Team Canada. MEOPAR plays a crucial role in advancing ocean science through collaboration, funding, and knowledge-sharing, contributing to Canada’s leadership in marine research.
International collaboration is imperative to tackling global ocean challenges and, through the opportunity to participate in this conference, MEOPAR will be able to strengthen international research networks and foster collaboration.
“We were invited to be part of this Team Canada approach, and as a national marine research network we are motivated to highlight the need for collaboration in the sector both within our own vast country and internationally,” said MEOPAR Executive Director, Jamie Snook.

Team Canada
Canada is a strong contributor to scientific research and innovation on the global stage and Team Canada’s participation in the AAAS Annual Meeting will go towards advancing our country’s scientific potential and building connections on an international level.
Several organizations are attending alongside MEOPAR on behalf of Team Canada, including Community Circle on Scaling Business Innovation for Humanity, BioCanRx, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada(ISED), Perimeter Institute, and the Council of Canadian Academies / Conseil des académies canadiennes (CCA).
Conference goers can connect with MEOPAR and the other members of Team Canada at booth #1003 in the exhibit hall of the Hynes Convention Center where panel discussions, Q&A sessions and presentations will be hosted to promote the delegation’s various research efforts.
Join MEOPAR on Friday, February 14th from 11:00am – 12:30pm EST for a discussion that will cover marine ecology and international collaboration in the ocean sector. MEOPAR understands the significance of collaboration when it comes to tackling ocean challenges and furthering research efforts and this talk will share the unique opportunities found within Canada’s ocean sector with a global audience.
Global environmental and economic challenges persist regardless of shifting political climates or social factors. In order to find solutions that create positive change for our planet, research and scientific efforts must be united. The AAAS conference allows organizations and individuals across disciplines and scientific specialties to come together to shape a brighter future.

Plus que jamais, les partenariats internationaux et la collaboration au sein de la communauté scientifique sont essentiels pour faire progresser la recherche et l’innovation. C’est dans cette optique que l’American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) organise sa conférence annuelle du 13 au 16 février, réunissant des délégations scientifiques du monde entier. Cette année, l’événement se tiendra à Boston et portera sur le thème « La science façonne l’avenir ».
Les présentateurs et les participants se rassembleront pour célébrer l’esprit de communauté et de collaboration comme moteur essentiel de l’innovation scientifique, échanger sur les défis mondiaux actuels et explorer un avenir où le progrès repose sur le travail collectif. L’AAAS est la plus grande société multidisciplinaire de sciences au monde, avec plus de 120 000 membres répartis dans 91 pays. Chaque année, la conférence attire en moyenne 4 000 participants issus des milieux académique, gouvernemental et privé.
Cette année, des membres du Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response Network (MEOPAR) participeront pour la première fois à cet événement en tant que membres d’Équipe Canada. En favorisant la collaboration, le financement de la recherche et le partage des connaissances, MEOPAR joue un rôle clé dans l’avancement des sciences marines et contribue au leadership du Canada en recherche océanique.

« Nous avons été invités à faire partie de l’approche de l’Équipe Canada, et en tant que réseau national de recherche marine, nous avons à cœur de souligner l’importance de la collaboration, tant au sein de notre vaste pays qu’à l’international », explique Jamie Snook, directeur exécutif de MEOPAR.
« L’ événement de l’AAAS attire un large public international, et établir des liens avec d’autres organismes de financement qui souhaiteraient mutualiser leurs ressources avec les nôtres pour amplifier notre impact serait une véritable réussite pour nous. »
Équipe Canada
Le Canada joue un rôle clé sur la scène scientifique internationale et la participation d’Équipe Canada à la conférence annuelle de l’AAAS permettra de renforcer le potentiel scientifique du pays et de favoriser de nouvelles collaborations à l’échelle mondiale.
Aux côtés de MEOPAR, plusieurs organisations feront partie de la délégation canadienne, notamment : Cercle Communautaire, BioCan RX, Innovation, Sciences et Développement économique Canada (ISDE), l’Institut Périmètre et le Conseil des académies canadiennes (CAC)
Les participants pourront rencontrer MEOPAR et les autres membres d’Équipe Canada au stand #1003 du Hynes Convention Center. Des discussions, séances de questions-réponses et présentations mettront en lumière les initiatives de recherche de la délégation.
