Summary:
The OA CoP aims to share and advance expertise, data, and resources on ocean acidification across all sectors, disciplines, and regions in Canada. It also seeks to identify research and knowledge gaps, guide necessary actions, and foster a collaborative, supportive environment for communities and groups impacted by ocean acidification.
Goal and Approach:
Established in 2018, the OA CoP is an interdisciplinary Canadian network dedicated to coordinating OA expertise, sharing knowledge and resources, and supporting research capacity, policy, and adaptation planning. Having evolved from community building and resource development toward action and implementation, the CoP draws on its State of OA Knowledge in Canada work and partnerships with organizations such as the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS), the Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network (GOA-ON), and the OA Alliance to advance national and international collaboration. The CoP supports the BC Ocean Acidification and Hypoxia Action Plan and represents the Canadian OA community internationally through the OA Alliance, the GOA-ON, and the Ocean Acidification Research for Sustainability (OARS) Programme. Its current priorities include advocating for a federal OA Action Plan, improving access to OA data, producing regular State of OA Science reports to inform decision-makers, strengthening research capacity through meetings and training, and developing accessible OA literacy and knowledge mobilization resources.
