To encourage greater involvement of young scientists in international scientific investigations and to foster their role in the management and stewardship of the marine environment, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) and the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) are proud to announce the fourth Early Career Scientist Conference in July 2022 hosted by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
The 4th International ICES-PICES Conference will facilitate international networking and collaboration under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, with participants attending from nearly 30 different countries. MEOPAR is pleased to be supporting the conference and will be hosting an engaging networking event including a panel discussion with highly qualified ocean professionals at various stages in their careers, followed by a social networking activity.
Building a network of peers is invaluable. Through this conference, early career scientists will have the opportunity to meet colleagues from around the globe who share similar interests and an enthusiasm to improve equality and diversity in marine science. The conference aims to foster the development of contacts, collaborations, and associations among early career scientists that will persist for decades, and to establish personal and institutional networks that will help to advance our understanding of the marine environment.
Who can participate? An early career scientist must be 35 years of age or younger at the time of the event, or have finished a PhD no earlier than 2017.

Building and maintaining professional networks as a student or early career professional can feel overwhelming and intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Join MEOPAR in listening to stories and networking tips from a diverse panel of highly qualified professionals. We’ll then put them into practice with a social networking activity, so you’ll leave this session feeling more confident in your networking skills and having met other conference attendees!
