About the artist

Geneviève Dupéré navigates at the confluence of maritime vitality and acrobatic performance. She will present her work-in-progress “From River to Stage,” featuring écH2osystème, a documentary-type performing arts project. The title refers to the marine ecosystem of the St.Lawrence River, the richness of its waters, and how it echoes in our society. Over the past twenty years, Geneviève has worked in circus arts, street theatre, and opera. She has served as an acting specialist for the Cirque du Soleil and aerial co-choreographer for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games ceremonies in Sochi. From 2015, she re-oriented her work toward the St. Lawrence River through her role as director of the artistic, historic, and marine content of Avudo, the flagship projection event for Montreal’s 375th anniversary. She has traveled extensively along the St. LawrenceRiver on scientific expeditions to create écH2osystème and as of this fall, she teaches knowledge mobilization to the master’s degree students of Environnement et Développement durable (Environment and Sustainable Development) program at the University of Montreal. Through her work as a doctoral candidate at UQAM (Université du Québec à Montréal), artistic researcher at CRITAC (Center for Circus Arts Research, Innovation, and Knowledge Transfer), and professor at the National Theatre School of Canada, Geneviève pursues research creation as a dynamic way of knowing, based on a complex ecosystem of which we are part.
