MEOPAR Celebrates a Decade of our Ocean Network

By February 17, 2022No Comments

Marking our 10th Birthday

Back on February 17, 2012, when the network was officially incorporated, our small team could only dream of the vast network that MEOPAR would become. MEOPAR’s Scientific Director Dr.  Doug Wallace and its Associate Scientific Director Dr. Ronald Pelot have watched the network grow to partner with universities, researchers, industry, and to support projects from coast to coast to coast.

On our tenth birthday, we can proudly look back on our progress towards a coordinated Canadian approach. Every research project, Community of Practice, Knowledge Mobilization fund initiative, industry partnership, and training session has brought us here. The connections formed across the network have not only made these past accomplishments possible, they have also set us up to tackle the next decade of challenges facing Canada’s ocean spaces and coastlines.

MEOPAR’s success would not have been possible without the hard work of so many individuals and groups across the country. We would like to take this opportunity to  thank all members of our Board of Directors, International Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC), and Research Management Committee (RMC), both past and present; to the Theme and Core leaders and investigators; to the many researchers, industry professionals, and Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP): and the staff past and present; we are so grateful for the all the time and knowledge that you have contributed.

We want to celebrate this moment with our network! We are collecting stories, photos, and videos of your MEOPAR memories and we ask that you share them with us! What do you remember from your MEOPAR-funded fieldwork? What photos do you have of training events or past Annual Scientific Meetings? Over the next few months, we look to celebrate our tenth anniversary with you, so please feel free to reach out!

Send us your MEOPAR memories
